Video Analysis for Football Coaches & Analysts

Match footage tells a story, but raw video doesn't explain itself. DrawTactics Video Analysis lets you add professional annotations that guide viewers to exactly what they should see — player positioning, passing lanes, defensive shape, and tactical patterns.

Unlike generic video editors, our tool is built specifically for football. You can combine freeze-frame analysis with player tracking markers to follow selected players through key windows of play. The timeline shows exactly where annotations appear. And the export produces clean, professional videos perfect for team meetings or social media. For a focused walkthrough, see our Football Player Tracking page.

Video Analysis for Every Football Context

Whether you're analysing your team's performance, scouting opposition, or creating content, video annotation makes your point clearer. Static screenshots miss the moment before and after. Raw video buries insights in footage. Annotated video guides viewers to understanding.

For coaches: Show players exactly what they did well and what needs improvement. Use freeze frames to break down positioning, pressing triggers, and build-up patterns, then add tracking markers to keep attention on key players during the sequence.

For analysts: Create professional analysis videos highlighting tactical patterns, player roles, and team shape. Combine timed annotations with player tracking markers, then export in HD for presentations or social media.

For content creators: Produce engaging tactical content that stands out. Football fans love analysis videos, but the best ones guide the viewer's eye. Use arrows, shapes, and markers to highlight exactly what matters. Build your audience with clear, visually compelling breakdowns.

From Match Footage to Insights

The best football analysis doesn't just show — it explains. When you annotate video, you're not adding decoration. You're adding understanding. An arrow shows where a player should have moved. A circle highlights the space that should have been exploited. A chain of markers traces the passing sequence that broke the press.

For team meetings: Walk players through key moments with professional annotations. They'll understand faster and remember longer than with verbal explanations alone. Export cropped clips focusing on specific phases of play.

For individual development: Show players their positioning, movement, and decision-making in context. Annotated video makes abstract coaching points concrete. Players see exactly what you mean and can review on their own time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What video formats can I upload?

DrawTactics supports MP4, MOV, and AVI video files up to 60 seconds long and 100MB in size. Most match footage exported from video cameras, phones, or downloaded from analysis platforms works directly. For longer clips, trim to the specific moment you want to analyse before uploading.

What file format does the export use?

Video Analysis exports as MP4 (Safari) or WebM (Chrome/Firefox) depending on your browser, both at 30 frames per second. You can choose 720p or 1080p resolution. The videos play natively everywhere — messaging apps, email, social media, and presentation software.

Can I edit annotations after creating them?

Yes. Click any annotation in the sidebar list to jump to that timestamp and edit. You can move markers, adjust arrows, resize shapes, edit text, or change the display duration. Your changes update immediately in the preview.

Can I track specific players in a clip?

Yes. In Player Tracking, choose a start time, detect candidates, select the players you want, and set the tracking duration window. You can style tracking markers with your preferred colour and size before adding them to the clip. See the dedicated Player Tracking guide page for more detail.

Is there a limit to how many annotations I can add?

No limit. Add as many freeze-frame annotations as you need within the 60-second video length. Each annotation can contain multiple markers, arrows, shapes, and text boxes. The timeline shows all your annotations with coloured markers for easy navigation.

How is this different from the screenshot annotator?

The screenshot annotator is for single static images — ideal for formations and set pieces. Video Analysis adds the timeline dimension, letting you annotate match footage with timed freeze frames that pause the action at key moments. Use screenshots for static diagrams, video analysis for dynamic moments.
